Jaisalmer Desert Festival, 2014
Rising out of a vast, barren desert, Jaisalmer—the "Golden City"—is sheer magic. Dominated by its huge honey-colored fort - Sonar Quila (Golden Fort), this remote desert outpost, once on the strategic trading route between central Asia and India, is today a veritable magnet for tourists. Jaisalmer is probably the only city in the Great Indian Desert that brings out to the world the beauty of the desert life like no other.
If you wish to enliven the traditional desert life of Rajasthan, Jaisalmer Desert Festival is just the right event. You can witness the real culture and heritage at its full height during Jaisalmer Desert Festival. The sands around Jaisalmer come alive with the brilliant colors, music and laughter of the Desert Festival, which is held for three days every year (12 – 14 February, 2014). Dressed in brilliantly hued costumes, the folk artists from various parts of Rajasthan dance and sing haunting ballads of valor, romance and tragedy. Organized by Rajasthan Tourism Department at Sam Sand Dunes located at 40 km from Jaisalmer city, Jaisalmer Desert Festival has everything to allure domestic and international tourists.
